FAQ’s

FAQ’s

  • How many tests can I perform with the reagents?
    • The amount of tests you can perform with each reagent is directly based on the complexity of the substance being tested.  Typical test procedures call for a very small amount of reagent (1 drop, 1 scoop), therefore, out of a 1oz. container; you can run a substantial amount of tests.
  • How often must I replace the reagents?
    • 95% of the reagents contained in the HazCat kit have an indefinite shelf life.  We recommend periodic testing of the reagents to ensure proper functionality.  Replacement of the reagents is on an as needed basis.
  • What are the most commonly used reagents in the kit?
    • This is dependent on the use of the kit.  Site specific testing may utilize different reagents than incident specific testing.  The most commonly used reagents are:
      • RE2300 Distilled Water
      • RE2301 3N Hydrochloric Acid
      • RE2310 Hydrogen Peroxide
      • RE2332 Cyanide Test 1
      • RE2333 Cyanide Test 2
      • RE2328 Chloride Test
      • RE2327 Reagent Paper
      • HW4047 Peroxide Test Strips
      • RE2325 Methanol
      • HW4045 Oxidizer Test Strips
  • What are the storage requirements for the kit?
    • The HazCat kits should never be stored below 32º F or above 100º F. Using or storing these items at extreme temperatures will damage or reduce the life of the reagents.
  • How do I dispose of the HazCat waste?
    • HazCat waste is often disposed of by simply bulking it with the waste at the site. There are instances where this is not acceptable. It is the HazCat user’s responsibility to determine compatibility of HazCat waste with bulk waste and to determine the waste stream. All HazCat reagents are labeled with chemical names. HazCat waste must be disposed of according to local jurisdiction.
  • What chemicals or substances can the HazCat kit identify?
  • How do I refurbish my HazCat kit?
  • What Chemical Agents can the HazCat kit detect?
  • What are the training requirements for the kit?
    • HazTech Systems, Inc. recommends that a first time user take part in a 32-hour HazCat Operations workshop.  Contact us for more information.
  • Are there current distributors that sell the HazCat kit?

  • Can I ship my HazCat kit?
  • What do the orange stickers on the reagent bottles mean?
    • The small orange labels on each reagent bottle are the date of manufacture, or the day the reagent was bottled and sealed.  The numbers read:  YEAR/MONTH/DAY.  For the majority of the reagents, this is not an expiration date.
  • Is there a warranty on my kit?
    • A product warranty of 1-year applies to the kit against faulty workmanship and materials.
  • Are there items in the kit that are perishable, or have an expiration date?
  • How long do the tests take to complete?
    • Depending on the complexity of the substance you are testing and which tests you are performing, each test typically takes between 30 seconds and 15 minutes.
  • How often should I check my reagents?
    • HazTech Systems, Inc. recommends checking the reagents at least twice a year.  Testing the reagents is also a good way to maintain user confidence in the system.
  • How can I train my agency in-house to maintain user confidence?
    • HazTech Systems, Inc. manufactures products specifically designed for use with your kit as a training aide.  The KTC2002 Industrial Chemical Training kit and the KTC2003 WMD Training kits contain unknown chemicals that range from easy to identify to more complex substances.  Call for pricing and availability.
